The Health Administration Service is seeking a full-time Medical Administration Specialist to serve as Administrative Officer of the Day (AOD) at the VA Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
POSITION REQUIRES WEEKEND/HOLIDAY/EVENING/NIGHT TOURS OF DUTY
Duties
The primary function of the Medical Administration Specialist (AOD) is to provide administrative authority, guidance and advice necessary for operation of the medical center during irregular duty hours. Typical duties include, but are not limited to:
Providing guidance for clinical station administrative matters, and public relations.
Representing management in matters pertaining to the lawful retention of veterans in the VA Medical Center.
Maintaining continuity of functions and providing full medical administrative support during other than normal tours of duty to clinical and administrative medical center staff.
Responsible for achieving management objectives and supporting the decisions of management in carrying out duties.
Coordinating resolutions of medical - legal, regulatory, and policy requirements issues.-
Providing technical guidance necessary to meet procedural, legal, and administrative requirements relating to the care and treatment of patients, to achieve optimum use of available resources.
Work Schedule: Weekend/Holiday/Evening/Night tours of duty.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/21/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-7) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing current information concerning VA regulations and guidelines that affect the administrative operations of the Health Administration Service; reading and interpreting regulations and directives governing eligibility for medical and dental benefit programs; processing inpatient and external patient admissions, transfers and dispositions; working with computerized patient record systems, enrollment system redesigns, and hospital Inquiry systems; determining veterans' health benefits eligibility; ensuring adherence to policies, rules and regulations to assure quality patient care. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and graduate level education. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)

Physical Requirements: The work is accomplished in an office setting. It requires sitting and walking through the medical center with occasional lifting of objects such as suitcases, clothing, medical charts, or office supplies.
