The Health Administration Service is seeking a full-time Secretary at the VA Medical Center in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Duties
This position is in the Health Administration Service (HAS) and reports directly to the Chief of HAS. The incumbent will be responsible for providing administrative support to the Chief of HAS and (as designated) the Assistant Chief of HAS, supervisors, and leads. Typical duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Receiving visitors, telephone calls, and correspondence and routing same appropriately.
Typing policy, directives, and other documents.
Scheduling appointments and maintaining calendars.
Preparing meeting agendas and minutes.
Assisting in the preparation of travel and training requests for HAS employees.
Maintaining time and attendance records for HAS employees.
Maintaining records and files in accordance with the Records Control Schedule.
Preparing correspondence and reports.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

All applicants must submit SF-50 (Notification of Personnel Action) forms to demonstrate current employment at Tuscaloosa VAMC and ALSO to demonstrate one year of experience at the GS-5 grade level. MULTIPLE SF-50s MAY BE REQUIRED to fulfill these requirements.
Interchange Agreements with Other Merit System: Employees who occupy medical or medical-related positions and were appointed under 38 U.S.C. 4701(1) or (3) [formerly 38 U.S.C. 4104 (1) and (3)] must be serving in a full-time position without time limit and have served continuously for at least one year in this other merit system to be eligible to convert to the Title 5 System. Some exceptions to this rule may apply if you have previously acquired tenure under a Title 5 appointment.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/21/2023.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-5) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: providing administrative support in an office setting by receiving and accurately routing telephone calls and visitors; making appointments/maintaining calendars for one or more individuals; receiving and responding to or distributing correspondence; maintaining time and attendance records for a group of employees; maintaining paper and electronic files, and obtaining supplies for the office.

Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items like papers or books. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.
