This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This is an Electrician position responsible for Electrical work including motors, starters, medical equipment, protection devices, alarm devices, power and lighting panels, and switches in installation buildings.

Duties

Diagnose equipment failures. Investigate operating complaints by checking the values of voltage, current time, resistance, impedance, capacitance, speed, and temperature. Serve as stand-by electrician on munitions manufacturing lines. Maintenance of electrical control systems, special circuits, and control apparatus. Check lightning protection and grounding systems for conductance values and for continuity.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
• This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter.
• This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
• Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
• This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
• Incumbent is subject to an annual audiometric evaluation at the PBA medical facility.

Qualifications

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Electrician ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform common repairs to electrical systems. Must have experience with circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical Effort: Installation, maintenance, and repair require a considerable amount of work in very cramped quarters and often at high temperature and in the presence of disagreeable fumes. Work involves reaching, lifting, and bending while using hand and powered tools. Weight lifted rarely exceeds 25 pounds but may on occasion reach 50 pounds. Employee is required to use personal protective equipment. Working Conditions: The work is done inside and outside, and is usually dirty, dusty, and greasy. The electrician is sometimes required to make repairs and installations outside in bad weather or extreme temperatures and in work areas that are noisy. He is occasionally exposed to the possibility of broken bones, electrical shock, and burns. He is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises. When working in production areas, employee is subjected to the possibility of hazards from toxic chemicals and explosives items.
