About the Position: This position is at Little Goose Dam, Starbuck, WA. The Dam is operated by the US Army Corps of Engineers and is situated on the Snake River, 65-river miles downstream from Clarkston, WA and 70-river miles upstream from the Tri-Cities, WA. The work duties will be performed inside and outside the hydroelectric powerhouse facility. This is a fast paced and multifaceted working environment. Little Goose Dam is near Starbuck, WA and close to Dayton, WA.
Duties
Serves as a fully qualified hydro station operator at a hydroelectric power project with one or more adjunct operating facilities/features consisting of navigation lock, fishways, pumping plant, and spillway.
Makes regular and specific inspections of project areas and equipment.
Operates power project equipment to prescribed standards as directed, such as stopping, starting, synchronizing, adjusting load and voltage.
Operates navigation lock and control machinery for valves and gates in passing vessels through high, single-lift locks.
Operates gates to control flows and pool levels or to discharge debris.
Performs light cleaning, lubrication of equipment, and Operator-related PM's.
Maintains security surveillance of the project.
Requirements

- Position requires shift work and/or work on rotating shifts to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays and in other situations.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) POWER PLANT OPERATOR without more than normal supervision. I have performed all tasks of a journey level operator in a power plant of at least 40 megawatt generation capability without more than normal supervision. I have restored a 15 megawatt or larger turbine generator to service after major overhaul in a 40 megawatt or larger power plant with occasional supervisory checks and guidance. My resume reflects current or past experience performing these tasks. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Eye and hand coordination is required to operate switches and controls. Job requires extensive walking, standing, and climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs. Is required to operate large valves, apply servolocks, lift deck hatches and other jobs requiring pulling or turning force. Lifts and carries equipment and supplies frequently up to, and occasionally over, 45 pounds. Work requires prolonged standing, walking, climbing, bending, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and kneeling.
Working Conditions: Works on a rotating shift, inside, in well-lighted work area. Works outdoors for short periods with exposure to climate extremes. Occasionally works in proximity to high voltages and currents. Incumbent is often exposed to equipment and machinery noises and outside the control room employee will be subject to the discomfort of wearing safety equipment such as hard-hats, earplugs, and respirators. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
