About the Position: Conduct in-depth industrial hygiene surveillance for all base employees, civilian and active-duty military, assigned to industrial, health care, and warehouse work areas; assess work area processes and environmental conditions for worker health hazards; devise and implement controls to minimize potential health hazards; detect violations of published health standards/regulations and make corrective recommendations.

Duties

Conduct industrial hygiene evaluations on agency facilities noting workplace conditions, non-compliance, air samples, and/or hazardous working conditions. Produce technical reports based on completed studies and sampling results. Conduct illness and/or injury evaluations to identify potential hazards. Analyze work environments for hazardous materials and/or physical agents that a worker may be exposed to. Maintain records and/or files related to studies, surveys, and findings. Provide training to organizational personnel on health and workplace hazards. Participate in work group and/or committees. Enter data into an automated system such as Defense Occupational and Environmental Health Readiness System-Industrial Hygiene database.

Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements.
  • This position may require incumbent to wear PPE and requires a respirator fit test.

Specialized experience for in external placements: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting health hazard surveys for a facility and/or organization; conducting industrial hygiene training on environmental or safety hazards for the facility; presenting results of surveys to leaders and/or stakeholders of a facility or organization. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
