Duties

You will determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to perform electronic work assignments. You will assemble and disassemble components or equipment using blueprints or drawings. You will inspect printed circuit components, transformers, capacitors, resistors, semi-conductors, vacuum tubes, wiring harnesses, waveguides, coaxial transmission lines, or precision mechanical parts and assemblies to verify operational efficiency. You will conduct inspections to diagnose and plan work sequences to expedite repair of electronic equipment. You will determine test equipment, methods, and tools needed for electronic repairs. You will Install, maintain and repair master fire alarm systems, including in-building mass notification systems.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current journeyman or craftsman-level qualification
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current qualification or license from any state (or local jurisdiction if delegated authority by the state) and supporting continuing education if required by the local jurisdiction.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a copy of your certification.

Qualifications

Selective Placement Factor: A primary responsibility of this position includes Fire Protection Systems Inspection, Testing and Maintenance (FPS ITM) to minimize life safety and operational risk. FPS ITM personnel are required to meet the qualifications standards of UFC 3-601-02. Applicant must demonstrate one of the following qualifying requirements has been met and is currently maintained: (1) A recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualification for FPS such as NICETA recognized journeyman or craftsman-level qualifications for fire alarm systems, such as a formalized labor organization-based journeyman training, or similar programs; (2) A qualification or license from any state (or local jurisdiction if delegated authority by the state) and supporting continuing education if required by the local jurisdiction; (3) A copy of your certification is required. Failure to provide certification may result in disqualification. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: (1) Using tools of the trade and having the ability to extend the use of conventional tools and test equipment when adding components or modifications of circuits requiring improvisation; (2) Operating parameters of the overall operation of alarm systems and (3) Interpreting drawings, specifications, and schematics of complete systems and troubleshooting the systems from the schematic, following signal paths through a complex path of components, assemblies and subassemblies.
