You will serve as a LOCKSMITH in the NAVAL FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND of NAVAL FACILITIES ENG COMMAND HAWAII.

Duties

You will use tools and equipment of the locksmith trade to install locks throughout an organization. You will perform visual checks to detect worn or damaged parts (e.g., broken springs, jammed pins, bent discs, broken tail pieces, rust, corrosion). You will duplicate keys using cutting or duplicating machines. Establish master key systems to set up coding systems for different types of locks and keyways. You will restore malfunctioning locks and latches to operational condition by disassembling, cleaning, oiling, repairing, or replacing worn and damaged parts.

Requirements

  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel away from normal duty station and must be able to travel at least 5 days per month.
  • Work may require certification through the DOD Lock Program.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including working in shifts, regular overtime and overtime on an emergency call-back-basis.
  • May be assigned a struck stocked with controlled inventory and consumable materials. If assigned stock truck, the incumbent is responsible for managing material by following established procedures for inventory control and for cost accounting.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. 1) repair, overhaul, modification, testing and installing a variety of locking devices, to include manufacturing duplication of keys and combination of locking mechanisms; 2) ability to read and interpret manufacturer drawings, diagrams, guidelines and technical manuals in order to determine project requirements, layout and plan work; modifies, reworks and performs full installation of locking devices; 3) able to identify tampered devices and able to repair and modify such systems.
