Duties

In collaboration with the Unit Nurse Manager, develops, modifies. and/or interprets performance standards.
Resolves employee complaints and refers serious unresolved complaints to higher level management.
Grants approval of all routine sick and annual leave requests for reporting personnel.
Works closely with other PCS Surgery Care Service supervisors, Unit Managers, and Chief to ensure appropriate non-provider staffing across clinic areas.
Responsible for the analysis of work, staff, and equipment.
Identifies employee developmental needs and provides or arranges for training (formal and on-the-job) to maintain and improve job performance.
Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures. and directives of management.
Recognizes and takes action to correct situations posing a threat to the health or safety of subordinates.
Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion.
Work Schedule: Fulltime; Monday - Friday; 7:00 am - 3:30 pm
Qualifications
DESIGNATED DRUG-TESTING POSITION:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied employment with VA. Applicants will not be appointed to the position if a verified positive drug test result is received.
English Language Proficiency - In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
You may qualify based on your experience or education as listed below:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS 7) in Federal Service that includes performing the following duties: Select or recommend selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details and reassignments.; Assign and evaluate work of subordinate staff.; Utilize computer programs and databases in order to enter, modify, and retrieve sensitive information and various data into or from electronic medical records, scheduling systems, and/or reporting formats.; Working knowledge of medical terminology in order to deal effectively with patients, the general public and the professional staff.; Organize work, set priorities and delegate tasks and responsibilities in order to meet deadlines.; Identify educational and training needs.; Manage fiscal matters i.e. forecast resources, equipment and budgetary needs.; Provide a range of diagnostic functions to include administrative, computer and blood drawing procedures, assisting patients and specimen processing.; Knowledge of OSHA, CAP standards related to patient employee safety.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successful completion of 2 full years of Graduate level education or have obtained a Master's Degree.
OR
COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond 18 semester hours) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must include graduate courses directly related to the work of this position.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
