The primary purpose of the position is to service as senior engineering technician in support of design and construction projects for the installation as well as performing associated surveying work.
Duties
Independently plans the methods to portray and prepares engineering drawings involving original and complex designs.
Prepares drawings for major contractual projects utilizing computer design software.
Stores, catalogs, maintains, and updates as-built drawings. Maintains copies of all as built and new designs on computer storage media.
Operates and maintains print reproduction equipment. Set up reproduction equipment and adjusts controls for proper operation and optimum print quality.
Performs surveying work as chief-of-party on simple construction or surveys of third or fourth order of accuracy and of limited scope and complexity.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Technical and Medical Support Positions
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience for GS-0802-07 position which includes technical work in: drafting, surveying construction estimating, physical science, mathematics, aerospace, architecture, chemicals, electrical or mechanical systems, mining, petroleum, or nuclear systems. Practical knowledge of, and skilled in applying, standardized rules or operations for limited projects involving specialized or complicated procedures requiring substantial training or experience in methods and practices of drafting techniques sufficient to produce engineering drawings involving original, novel and/or designs. Knowledge and experience is required to exercise judgement to interpret drawings, plans, and specification and take action or make recommendations based on preliminary data interpretation or analysis. Considerable time is spent searching for information and in discussions with the designer to understand the design concept, to obtain information needed to make the drawings, and ensure appropriate integration between components. Knowledge and experience in using standard mathematical formulas to make computations; identify and correct deficiencies; and prepare and present reports and documentation requiring a high degree of precision and using a variety of projection techniques to portray unusual or complex designs. Knowledge and experience in applying standard rules, procedures, or operations requiring extended training or experience in a particular specialty field or brad training diversified experience in serval fields of surveying. As chief of party, surveying assignments are of limited scope where the assignment is substantially similar to precedents that clearly dictate the appropriate approach. Prepares necessary field notes and computation, and reports instances in which it appears that usual procedures and techniques will not accomplish assigned purpose. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-06.

Education: Successful completion of one full year of graduate education with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts.

COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-?grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-6 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-7 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of symbols, terminology and accepted standards used in engineering drawing; and the equipment, facilities, and systems of civil, mechanical, electrical, and architectural engineering disciplines using architectural/graphic design software to accomplish unusually difficult drafting assignments.
2. Knowledge of surveying methods, equipment, and techniques in the measurement or determination of distances elevations, area, angles, land boundaries, and other features of the earth's surface.
3. Skill in maintaining and operating reproduction machines.
4. Ability to prepay original and complex drawing that are neat, accurate, appropriately, dimensioned, and logically arranged, utilizing the methods and techniques of drafting; and print neatly and legibly, both freehand and with mechanical lettering devices.
5. Ability to make mathematical computations using standardized tables and formulas.
6. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
