The incumbent will be an employee of the VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) and will function as a member of a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT). Its purpose is to provide Health Technician support to the Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The incumbent will be assigned to the primary teamlets and may provide support to one or more of the other COBSs as necessary.

Duties

Major Duties but not limited to: Assist patient care under the direct supervision of a nurse manager or designee. Receives and directs patients, answers routine inquiries and makes referrals. Assists patients in contacting volunteer or social services as needed. Provides general clerical/administrative support for a clinic. Obtains specimens from patients using established phlebotomy practices. Performs a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking, recording and reporting to supervisors deviations in a vital signs, taking specimens, labeling a variety of specimens for the laboratory. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 6:45am - 3:15pm Variable Position Description Title/PD#: Health Technician/593-0447A Physical Requirements: Everyday safety precautions characteristic of work in a hospital environment, the work of the position involves long periods of moving about the clinic requiring regular and recurring bending, lifting (less than 40 pounds) stooping and stretching, to move and set up equipment such as EKG machines, and/or to lift and reposition patients or similar activities. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-05 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Knowledge and skill sufficient to provide health care to patient's routine system dysfunctions/disorders in an emergency room environment, clinic or ward. Knowledge of equipment used in a variety of procedures in order to select, setup, adapt, adjust and operate correctly. Knowledge of environmental safety, security and privacy of a patient and privileged information to ensure patient's safety and rights. OR Completed 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation. Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-05 level. OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-05 level.
