The Battle Creek VA Medical Center is recruiting for several Transportation Assistant positions. The Transportation assistant positions will function in Veterans Transportation Service providing scheduling, data collection and tracking support.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to:
Collects, compiles and tracks data and statistical information in support of Veterans Transportation Service (VTS). The employee is responsible to perform basic analysis of the data and generates a variety of reports. Collates in-coming data from a variety of sources.
Reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate. The employee also enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system and receives reports and information to verify that workload being captured is correct in the VetRide system.
Maintains an automated system of program-specific data to track items such as service project milestones, progress reports, clinic trends, program trends, performance measures, compliance strategies, etc.
Interacts with various other transportation services such as Emergency Medical Service, Volunteer Transportation Network, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, etc., and other transportation providers.
Must possess vast computer knowledge in creating and capturing data; which will include programs such as the Beneficiary Travel Self Service System (BTSSS), the electronic Claims Adjudication Management System (eCAMS), VetRide, Veterans Health Information Systems, and Technology Architecture (VistA), Computerized Patient Record System, Mobile Data Computer, SharePoint consult/request tracking system in processing internal consultations.
Responsible to respond to "action required" notifications, insuring the primary providers are correct.
Provides advice to operating managers and supervisors on how provided services can assist in accomplishing their missions and programs.
Coordinates the service practices that decrease waits and delays for patients in all specialty areas.
Plans consult processing flow to ensure Veterans receive consultation services in a timely manner.
Involves in extremely complex blend of computing technology, medical information, communication and customer service skills in a rapidly changing environment.
Gathers, enters, and updates Veteran's demographics, employment insurance, income, marital status and/or other information as it pertains to VTP, VTS, Beneficiary Travel and Special Mode Transportation.
Verifies and enters all information accurately and timely into multiple data bases for determination of the eligibility status in regards to VA healthcare and Beneficiary Travel.
Reviews, verifies, and analyzes data submitted for consistency with financial and program objectives, and adherence to VA directives.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. This position may be authorized for telework. Telework eligibility will be discussed during the interview process.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/21/2023
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Performs transportation support duties such as enters pertinent information into an automated tracking system as it pertains to Beneficiary Travel programs; performs work involving consult management, appointment scheduling and admissions scheduling; reviews documents, reports and/or applications for omissions and inconsistencies and ensures data entry is complete and accurate; collects, compile, and track data and statistical information in support of Veteran Transportation Service; answers questions and resolve concerns with customers, patients, family members, medical staff; receives invoices for payment of transportation services, investigates authorizations, and orders; prepares and produce written instructions, and a variety of correspondence. Physical Requirements: Incumbent will be exposed to stressful working situations that require a professional attitude and collective reasoning. The incumbent is subject to a high volume of work, the need for accuracy, frequency of interruptions and ever-changing demands due to program changes.
Working Conditions: Duties will be predominantly performed in the Veteran Transportation Service program office with intermittent trips to various locations throughout the Medical Center's catchment area both in and near patient care areas where there may be risk of exposure to disease.
