About the Position: The position is located at U.S. Army Garrison-Miami, part of the Installation Management Command (IMCOM), which is dedicated to providing Service members and their families a high quality of life and ensuring good stewardship in our host community.

Duties
Serve as a Shift Leader, and organizes work, sets priorities, and determines resource requirements; coordinates with other organizations or parts of the organization to accomplish goals; monitors progress and evaluates outcomes.
Respond to and/or contain crisis or urgent situations including accidents; man-made, biological, chemical, radiological, or natural disasters; or other incidents that could result in harm to people, property, or the environment.
Apply requirements for equipping and securing government facilities to guard against unauthorized access, identify suspicious activities, and ensure continuity of operations.
Conduct searches of vehicles, personnel, and property to detect contraband, threatening individuals, and violations of law or policy.
Operate security-related equipment (both manual and automated) or devices.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- This position is subject to the provisions of the Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as the Lautenberg Amendment.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- This position will require the incumbent to pass the primary physical fitness/agility test (PAT) within 30 days of employment and an annual one thereafter.
- This position requires the incumbent to wear a uniform and /or protective clothing and equipment.
- This position requires certification in the Individual Reliability Program (IRP) in accordance with Army Regulation 190-56.
- This position requires certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid training.
- This position requires the incumbent to be proficient in the use of assigned firearms.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain applicable certification in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
- Incumbent must successfully complete Security Guard training.
- This is a Term position scheduled to last 4 years}. A term position may be extended to a maximum of six years depending upon the needs of management.
- Term employment is subject to a one-year trial period. Employees serving a trial period can be removed with limited appeal rights.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialize Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes; (1) planning and assigning work to be accomplished for short and long-term priorities, experience in preparing schedules for completion of work; (2) experience in setting employee standards/objectives for performance and preparing performance evaluations; (3) experience with working in a Federal, State, municipal, local or private organization that involves the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; and (4) maintain order, protecting life, writing, and reviewing incident reports and responding to emergency situations and security breaches. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06).
Competition for Security Guard positions is restricted by law to persons entitled to Veterans preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Applicants will be accepted from non-preference eligible however these applicants will not be considered if preference eligible are available.
NOTE: An agency may fill a restricted position with a non-preference eligible by position change (promotion, demotion or reassignment) from among current permanent Department of Army employees. You will need to provide an SF-50 showing proof of employment status to be considered.
