This position is organizationally aligned under the Specialty Service at the VA Illiana Health Care System (550) Danville, IL - a complexity level 3 VHA facility - and is responsible for coordinating the activities of a complete range of acute medicine. The primary purpose of the position will be the development, coordination and analyzing/monitoring of acute medicine programs.

Duties

Major Duties to include but not limited to: -Will assist the Medical Directors of Internal Medicine and Urgent Care to complete proficiencies, market pay reviews, pay for performance, and annual performance appraisal evaluations. -Holds a daily morning briefing prior to morning report with the Medical Directors of Internal Medicine and Urgent Care, and Chief, Specialty Service to apprise them of any issues that may have arisen over the evening and night shifts. -Acts on behalf of the Chief at Morning Report. -Tracks and update provider privileges in Internal Medicine/Urgent Care, periodically reviewing with all providers' procedures that are no longer performed and recommending deletion from privileges. -Responsible for tracking and analyzing MD/NP/consultant workload. Coordinates and distributes data for event capture. Will draft and implement corrective action plan for any instances of workload issues. -Coordinates, develops and reviews for accuracy and completion of all Medical Record Inpatient/Outpatient Clinical Pertinence Reviews (FPPE/OPPE) for Internal Medicine and Urgent Care medicine on a bi-annual basis. -Prepares and presents various data and materials to staff at Medical Staff meetings. Will serve as Medical Representative at mid-level and high-level management meetings independently and for the Medical Directors for Internal Medicine and Urgent Care as a replacement when they cannot attend. -Works closely with other services and Engineering in regard to renovation and remodeling projects that involve or affect acute medicine services, and serves on various task forces to identify possible areas to relocate staff during construction. Responsible for space assignment of acute medicine. -Serves as Approving Timekeeping Official approving overtime, leave, payroll, etc. for T&L units 645. -Manages Specialty Service budget that includes fee basis payroll and several contracts. -Maintains a Contracting Officer Representative certification. -Works closely with the HSS to the Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff on facility level special projects. -Completes Hospitalist and Urgent Care Schedules. -Responsible for tracking SAIL and other performance improvement activities. Candidate may be required to perform a one year supervisory probation period. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/14/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-09. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-9) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Wide range of program management and administrative expertise, mature judgement, and the ability to interact with health care professionals and mangers in an effective manner. Wide range of methods to gather, analyze and evaluate information concerning management processes, draw conclusions and recommend appropriate action. Ability to analyze extensive program/interrelationships and coordinate the preparation of accurate and reasonable program plans and proposals. Knowledge of a wide rage of program management policies, concepts, practices and principles in order to analyze and develop recommendations for improvement in program operations and objectives. Extensive knowledge of complex, interrelated activity missions, organization, functions and operations. Knowledge of and skill in using management information systems, office automation systems and processes, computer applications, principles and techniques. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have PH.D or equivalent Doctoral Degree. OR, 3 Full Years of progressively higher level graduate education learning to such a degree or, LL.M if related. Education must be related. Transcripts required. OR, Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education or education beyond receipt of Masters degree. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position: Critical ThinkingLeadershipOrganizational Development Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work requires intense concentration at times and is mostly sedentary with the exception of walking, bending, etc. associated with office work.
