Duties
You will troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, and install marine engines and other equipment such as propulsion machinery and auxiliary generators, pumps, compressors, and fire-fighting machinery on vessels.
You will repair and adjust water and sewage systems, hydraulic piping systems, with components such as controls, relief valves, and a variety of pipes and fittings.
You will utilize tools such as: micrometers, feeler gauges, dial indicators and other precision instruments to determine condition and serviceability of parts and components according to specifications.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver?s license.

- Mandatory training is required by some engine companies in order to be qualified to perform warranty work on various gasoline and/or diesel engines.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- Incumbent must obtain dealer certification of current inventory of outboard engines within a minimum of 12 months of hire.

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to perform the work of a Marine Machinery Mechanic without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by the following: 1) Repairing, overhauling and installing marine engines and equipment such as propulsion machinery, auxiliary generators, pumps, compressors and fire fighting machinery on a variety of marine craft. 2) Using test equipment such as compression gauges, timing gauges, manometers, and injection testing machines to locate and repair worn, dirty or maladjusted components and parts; 3) Using checklists to inspect and clean mechanical systems on marine craft including brakes, electrical systems, fuel injection systems, plugs and carburetors; 4) Making adjustments to valve lash, injector timing, and fuel and control settings.(NOTE: Your answer must be supported by information in your resume.)
