About the Position: The U.S. Military Academy, West Point, NY is an academic institution located in the Hudson River Valley, 50 miles from New York City. The historic site is the oldest continuously occupied military post in America. West Point is a self-contained city with housing, a Department of Public Works, libraries, hospital, fire department, chapels, and restaurants. Employees have access to Eisenhower Hall Theater, Hudson Valley's performing arts center, and recreational facilities.
Duties
Participate in professional development activities within the Department and at the Academy including the Department's Faculty Development Workshop (FDW) and the USMA Master Teacher certification program.
You will serve as an instructor for undergraduate cadets and teach a variety of classes in the Department of Systems Engineering as part of the Systems Engineering (SE), Engineering Management (EM), and Systems and Decision Sciences (SDS).
You will author peer-reviewed publications.
Advise and assist cadets in their ongoing research projects.
Publish articles in academic journals and participate in professional development opportunities aimed at increasing teaching and research skills.
Instructors will be expected to teach and supervise undergraduate cadets.
Requirements

This is a full-time term appointment in the excepted service not to exceed 13 months. Term appointments may be extended beyond the initial term. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must (a) hold a bachelor's degree or higher that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, OR (b) possess a combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described above.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTORS/KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Applicants will be evaluated on the following: 1.) Academic Accomplishment (Ph.D. preferred or currently near completion of a Ph.D. program) in Systems Engineering, Engineering Management, Industrial Engineering, Operations research, Data Science, Software Engineering or closely related field; 2.) The ability to instruct a wide variety of classes within the Department of Systems Engineering. 3.) Demonstrated scholarship and future scholarship potential including journal publications, publications in conference preceding, working papers at an advance stage and future research plans; 4.) Undergraduate teaching experience, and potential for continued growth in teaching; and 5.) Ability to advise and mentor undergraduate cadets (individual and/or teams) in scholarly research. 6.) Potential for contributing to service to the Department and Academy.
