You will serve as a MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR in the VEHICLE OPERATIONS DIVISION, MOTOR TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT of MCAS CHERRY POINT.
Duties
You will operate one or more motor vehicle including pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, carryalls, sedans, crew cab pickup trucks, jeeps, and station wagons, which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight of up to 10,000 pounds.
You will operate vehicles over Federal, state, and county roads and city streets in all traffic conditions.
You will operate a van or small bus, neither of which will excess 10,000 GVN, in order to transport small groups.
You will load an unload the vehicles by hand, sometimes receiving help from other workers.
You will ensure the cargo is protected from the weather and is properly distributed and secured to prevent damage or loss while in transit.
You will perform operator maintenance and wash vehicle in compliance with established policies.
You will complete trip tickets, preventive maintenance records, and accident reports on vehicles operated.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card with travel and purchase authority.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You will be required to possess and maintain a current valid a current Class "B" Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a Hazardous Materials "H" endorsement. And maintain on-base driving privileges.
- Call back an emergency overtime are regular requirements of this position.
- The employee will be required to obtain a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification (OF-346) with Hazardous Material endorsement an a forklift Certification within 90 days of employment.
- Driver works mostly outside and operates vehicles in all types of weather in all types of traffic and weather on public roads or the equivalent and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
- Drives in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems.
- Driver is exposed to dirt an fumes and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of an accident while driving or from falling objects when loading and unloading the vehicle.
Qualifications
