The incumbent of this position serves as a Security Assistant, performing security-related functions in support of a Network Personnel Suitability and Credentialing Program within a shared services unit. The Personnel Security Program assures that all appointees have the appropriate level of security/suitability clearance commensurate with their assignment. Duties

***THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION*** Reviews position risk sensitivity levels as assistant to the Personnel Security Specialist. Tracks the level assigned and the appropriate background investigation needed. Serves as point of contact for new appointees during pre-employment process. Reviews information submitted to validate level of background required, enters appointee information into tracking system. Performs daily functions related to the Personal Identity Verification program including performing registrar and/or issuer duties and training sponsors. Maintains proficiency in the Personal Identity Verification Portal to create and issue Personal Identity Verification cards, capture biometrics and trouble shoot card and pin issues. Initiates, reviews and releases appointees background investigation. Utilizes software to execute personnel security related functions. Utilizes a variety of software packages to perform job functions, including Microsoft Teams and Outlook. Enters and tracks date related to the receipt of post-employment arrest reports. Assists with presenting training/briefings related to various aspects of the personnel security program Requests information from various law enforcement agencies and courts and keeps approving official informed of actions. Provides technical advice and guidance to employees, contractors and volunteers regarding Personal Identity Verification program. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-5: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in Federal service. Specialized experience includes: assisting in the review of applicant data for completion and accuracy and using databases and software. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE GS-5 (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One (1) year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as thirty (30) semester hours, forty-five (45) quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least twenty (20) hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately thirty-six (36) weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE GS-5 (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and specialized experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE GS-6: Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience which equipped you with the knowledge, skill, and abilities to perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-5 grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience includes: review of applicant data for completion and accuracy, using databases and software, requesting information from law enforcement agencies, and tracking information related to status of background investigation. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: CommunicationTechnical CompetenceTechnology Application IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
