This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: The Alaska District is seeking to fill a Park Ranger position. An ideal candidate will have experience in natural resource management and experience as a Park Ranger. Also possess knowledge of wildlife management, visitor assistance, patrolling, and using electronic databases.

Duties

This is a developmental position; duties listed below will be performed in a developmental capacity at the GS-7/9 grade level. At the full performance, GS-11, the incumbent will: Develop and implement short- and long-range plans for forestry and silvicultural practices including timber stand improvements, reforestation, inventories, timber disposals, and hazard tree management. Serves as District representative on the Chena Project. Plans and recommends multiple use of wildlife habitat maintenance and development of new habitats. Serves as the Project's environmental compliance program manager, keeping informed of environmental regulations using the Environmental Review Guide for Operations (ERGO) as a guide. Develop and implement various public recreational programs and events to promote public recreational safety and appreciation of public land resources.

The entry requirement requires completion of education or a combination of education and experience sufficient to be comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a four year course of study with a major in the professional or scientific field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience GS-7: One year of specialized experience which includes working with environmental policies/regulations AND providing orientations for programs and services, monitoring visitor activity, and coordinating recreational services with community organizations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled, such as that identified in Education above. Specialized Experience GS-9: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting in the development of natural resources programs and outdoor recreation management programs. OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes managing a natural resource program or environmental stewardship program in which you perform planning, budgeting and public liaison in one or more of the following functional areas: land management, fish and wildlife management, environmental compliance, recreation management, visitor assistance, contracting, information technology, administration, and personnel management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [insert applicable field(s) of study]. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%.
