Duties

You will begin serve as the TELECOMMUNICATIONS MECHANIC in the PENSECOLA BASE COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION, PANAMA CITY BASE COMMUNICATIONS OFFICE (BCO), PENSECOLA, FL. You will perform telephone copper and fiber optic cable installation troubleshooting, splicing, repair and maintenance. You will performs electrical, electronic and light-wave certification tests assuring new and existing cable systems meet the standards of performance based on industry standards. You will assists with placement of cables, clarification of blueprints, and location of new construction that has not been put on blueprints/plat drawings. You will work in progress, completed work for quantity and quality, overall system operation efficiency, and customer satisfaction and obtains required information or decisions from supervisors on issues that may come up during work.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION: Performing inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) work of the division, which is tasked with accomplishing construction, installation, maintenance and repair services of fiber optics, and copper communications infrastructure. Troubleshooting, testing splices for shorts, opens, transposed/reversed pairs, crosses, splits, shield continuity, shield to earth grounds, bonding and grounding, on copper cables. Developing and maintaining cross-connects, critical spares, line assignments, and ISP and OSP distribution database and cross connects at building communications rooms. Executing work orders and providing technical support for planned projects consisting of switching and transport networks supporting analog, digital, voice, data, alarms, and video teleconference services.
