About the Position: You will serve as mail and distribution assistant. Ensures the performance of mail operations, to include receiving, picking-up, sorting, routing, and metering all incoming and outgoing classified and unclassified mail in support of the US Army Garrison and Fort Meade.

Duties

Routes incoming mail, of all classifications and special categories. Assigns Control numbers, prepares required receipts, delivers through authorized channels or personnel, obtains receipts, maintains files, and prepares reports of such receipts and control documents. Operates metering equipment to weigh, identify and compare postage cost, meter, record, and label outgoing mail. Performs searches of all incoming official mail, Fed-X, UPS, and other private mail services and parcels for evidence of drugs, explosives, or biochemical agents, prior to routing mail within the installation. Drives on a daily basis to pick up and deliver mail, (including classified mail) to the US Post Office and installation-wide, on public roads, for long- and short-hauls.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires incumbent employee to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Position requires a valid state issued driver?s license.
  • Position requires incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain Government Drivers Certification.
  • Pre-employment physical required as a condition of employment, prior to appointment, reassignment, or transfer, prior to reporting for duty. Subsequent annual physicals are required.
  • This position has a lifting requirement of up to 70 pounds.
  • This position may require a 1-year probationary period.
  • Up to 10% travel on business

Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled such as: 1) routing incoming mail, of all classifications and special categories; 2) operating metering equipment to weigh, identify and compare postage cost, meter, record, and label outgoing mail; AND 3) utilizing postal procedural instructions, postal laws and policies governing the handling and processing of ordinary and accountable mail, postal rates, and mail classes. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). OR Education: Successfully completed a half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsOrganizational AwarenessTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-???????05).
