About the Position: This position is located within Maternal Child Infant Nursing, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Director Nursing Services, Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, Virginia. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Prepare and deliver all infant feedings as ordered by the medical provider. Verify all new, revised, or questionable infant feeding orders with a registered dietitian, bedside nurse, or charge nurse for accuracy. Attend daily rounds with multidisciplinary team to obtain updated clinical information and plan of care for each patient. Effectively communicate with the multidisciplinary team regarding feeding preparation. Use accurate technique and equipment to measure powders and liquids. Store prepared infant feeding properly until delivery to the patient area. Deliver prepared infant feedings to patient area refrigerators. Maintain daily records of patient profiles or updates computerized patient profile regarding infant formula orders.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
• This position may include shift work (evenings, weekends, holidays).
• Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. General and/or Specialized Experience: Six months of general experience (1) in any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with preparing and delivering infant feedings as ordered by the medical provider AND six months of specialized experience which includes attending daily rounds to obtain updated clinical information and plan of care for each patient and verifying patient feedings with a registered dietitian or nurse for accuracy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in subjects related to the position, such as, nutrition or dietetics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages.
