About the Position: Serves as the Fire & Emergency Services Divisions (FESD) point of contact and technical authority related to administering the Natick fire protection/inspection and safety program, Fire inspection engineering for all construction projects on the installation and at installation owned/ leased properties off the installation. ***THIS POSITION IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR SPECIAL RETIREMENT COVERAGE (SRC).

Duties

Provides Fire Protection, Inspection Engineering and Fire Prevention Safety reviews and coordination. Inspects complex construction plans, drawings, design specifications, and contract specifications for compliance with applicable fire protection, prevention and life safety codes, regulations, and criteria. Serves as the program leader for fire prevention/inspections. Implements goals, objectives, and milestones for the Natick fire protection/inspection and safety program. Provides expert fire protection and fire prevention consultation, advice and guidance to Directorate of Public Works and all tenant units and organizations at U.S. Army Garrison Natick as necessary. Attends preconstruction conferences, briefs contractor personnel on fire safety procedures and requirements. Provides technical advice to the supervisor regarding the effect of both immediate and long-term planning programs related to fire protection engineering.

Requirements

  • Must maintain the following Department of Defense Firefighter Certifications (or reciprocal equivalent): Fire Inspector III, Instructor II, Plans Examiner I certifications.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operators license.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid Secret Clearance.
  • This Position requires the incumbent to meet the minimum 40 hours of training in accordance with SARA, Title III for HAZMAT duties and responsibilities upon entry into this position.
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 35lb.
  • A Pre-employment and annual physical are required.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10%.
  • The incumbent will be required to work 40 hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience, if qualifying based on education. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) Experience in firefighting and fire prevention theory and techniques. (2) Plan, direct, and carry out fire protection and prevention programs. (3) Technical authority for fire protection/inspection for construction projects. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Building ConstructionFire EngineeringFire Prevention, Inspection, and Code ComplianceOral Communication
