Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Machinery, Center of Excellence and Expertise (MACH-CEE) -affiliated with the Laredo Field Office. The selection will be made and oversight of this position will be maintained by the Laredo Field Office, but the physical location of this position will remain in Hidalgo, TX.

Duties

Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your technical and administrative expertise to safeguard the U.S. commercial supply chains. This position starts at a salary of $98,496.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $128,043.00 (GS-13, Step 10) with promotion potential to $128,043.00 (GS-13 Step 10). In this Supervisory (First Line) Customs Entry Officer position, you will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals responsible for a wide range of admissibility and control requirements. Typical work assignments include: Providing expert technical advice to higher-level CBP officials on the entry process. Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees. Monitoring and evaluating employees' work products; establishing or recommending performance standards and evaluations. Monitoring and evaluating the delivery of services to customers and the methods and techniques used to provide them. Developing and implementing plans to improve the delivery of services, individually and with other Entry Supervisors, and through process improvement teams.

Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Responding to and resolving technical and operational questions regarding the programs supervised Setting and adjusting priorities and preparing schedules for completion of work Performing a full range of supervisory functions including interviewing candidates, recommending rewards, counseling and discussing employee performance requirements hearing and resolving grievances, and taking disciplinary actions Analyzing customs documents and applying customs laws, regulations, and procedures; interpreting customs requirements; and Determining of rates of duty, classification of merchandise, and entry requirements NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 08/11/2023.
