This position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). As a Security Guard, you will be responsible for providing protective services guarding the campus of SIPI, including personnel, students, equipment, property and materials.

Duties

As a Security GuardGS-0085-5, your typical work assignments may include the following: Perform typical daily duties and responsibilities of the security guard, including foot and vehicle patrol and inspections in accordance with appropriate regulations. Coordinates information and responses to ensure consistency and conformance with program policies. Interact with public, employees, students, local law enforcement agencies and emergency response personnel. Provide support for planning, review and reporting for program/project studies. Documents and maintains daily duties and reports as required by program policy by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person. In emergency situations, administers First Aid, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), and Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Requirements

• Background investigation will be required for all hires.
• Appointment may be subject to a 2 year trial or 1 year probationary period.
• Valid state-issued Drivers License is required.
• Selective Service Registration is required for Males born after 12/31/1959.
• Required to obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain First Aid certifications in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automated External Defibrillation (AED).
• This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) that requires pre-employment drug testing and is subject to random testing thereafter.
• Position maybe subject to rotating shifts, nights, holidays, and weekends.
• Term Appointment - Time limited more than one year but not more than 4 years. The agency has the option of extending the appointment up to the four-year limit.
• Term appointments do not confer competitive/permanent status (5 CFR part 316).

Qualifications

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below and can be found here: OPM Operating Manual, General Qualification Standards for Security Guard Series, GS-0085. MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: The duties of these positions require moderate to arduous physical exertion and/or duties of a hazardous nature. The following medical requirements apply to all applicants: good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. Applicants and employees must have the capacity to perform the essential functions of the position without risk to themselves or others. In most instances, a specific medical condition or impairment will not automatically disqualify an applicant or employee. A medical condition or impairment is disqualifying only if the condition, for good medical reason, precludes assignment to or warrants restriction from the duties of the specific position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-05 Grade Level: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience such as work with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life. Such experience must have provided a knowledge of protective systems and techniques. Acceptable experience includes service in the Armed Services or Coast Guard that involved the performance of guard duties on a regular or intermittent basis. Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
