This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Coast Guard, Deputy Commandant for Mission Support, Director of Operational Logistics, Office of Base Operations (DOL-3), Base Kodiak, Alaska. There is a 3.53% (of basic pay) Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) authorized for this position location. Duties

In this position as a Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Aquatics Manager), you will be responsible for planning, implementing and administering (to include developing local policies and procedures) the aquatics program for the installation. The aquatics program includes self-directed and directed swimming activities and includes training and certifying students in swimming, diving, lifesaving, water safety, basic rescue, and first aid. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Requirements

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • This position requires a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Selectee is required to undergo a physical, and have normal color vision.
  • Must possess valid State driver's license.
  • May be required to serve a supervisory probationary period.

Qualifications

You qualify for the GS-7 grade level, if you possess one year of specialized experience at the GS-5 grade level performing duties such as: Experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs. Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels. Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management. Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organization. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. In addition to the Examples of qualifying specialized experience above, the selectee must also: Be proficient in English. Pre-employment physical required. Demonstrate normal vison color vision. The selectee is also required to possess and maintain a valid state drivers license. Incumbent must obtain and maintain Certified Pool Operator certification and pass the State of Alaska Pool Operators course within one year of employment. Incumbent must obtain and maintain a valid and current Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR certification and Water Safety Instructor certification, Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, Water Safety Instructor Trainer within one year of employment. **If qualifying based on education, you must attach your unofficial transcript(s)-see Required Documents section** National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees. If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
