The primary purpose of this position is to, as an Air Reserve Technician (ART), serves as the Force Support Squadron (FSS) Commander/Operations Officer. Incumbent serves as the Senior Air Reserve Technician; plans, organizes, and manages the activities and support services of the organization. Incumbent makes technical and executive decisions for the squadron in all areas of functional responsibility.

Duties

Plans, organizes, and oversee the full complement of activities within the Force Support Squadron. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Directs, coordinates, and oversees work of unit personnel through subordinate supervisors. Makes a periodic, comprehensive assessment and evaluation of program goals/objectives which provide a basis for long-range planning to enhance the organization's management support capabilities. Represents the Force Support Squadron with a variety of installation and functional area organizations. Establishes, develops, and maintains effective working relationships with other organizations, outside agencies, and senior leadership.

  • This position is centrally managed by the ART Officer Career Field team. Travel and relocation expenses will be paid.

  • Position may require incumbent to Fly in military and/or commercial aircraft in the performance of temporary duty (TDY) assignments
  • Required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Incumbent's regular assignments are primarily ART duties: however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities
  • Position requires a background security investigation to determine suitability for employment and must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.

  • Advance in hire may be authorized if there is demonstrable proof provided on your resume

  • Position is designated as Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • As a mandatory requirement for employment, the incumbent is to refrain from the use of illegal drugs and if requested, submit to urinalysis testing. Appointee must sign a statement acknowledging the position occupied is a TDP.
  • Supervisory Position - Unless exempt, selectee must satisfactorily complete a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least 52 weeks of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in federal service which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the position being filled. Specialized experience is experience which may have been gained in planning, organizing, and managing the activities and support services of the organization; making technical and executive decisions on issues on personnel, manpower, and services available to installation personnel and developing, planning, budgeting, and coordinating activities, programs, facility programming, contracting, and customer interests and needs. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of a wide range of manpower, personnel, services education, readiness and budget execution concepts, principles, operations, laws, regulations, programs, and practices. Knowledge of the mission, roles, functions, organizational structure, management, and operation of medium to medium to large organizations to provide high level staff guidance and participate in the development of goals', objectives, and policies. Knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures related to developing, planning, budgeting, and coordinating activities, programs, facility programming, contracting, and customer interests and needs. Knowledge of safety, security, personnel management, Equal Opportunity (EO) and EEO regulations, practices, and procedures. Skill in managing the work operations of multiple organizational segments to meet program requirements, goals, and objectives within available resources. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of an organization directly and through subordinate supervisors. Other significant facts pertaining to this position are: Employee may be required to work extended or other than normal duty hours to include evenings and weekends and may be subject to recall. Mobility is a condition of employment. The employee must sign an Air Force wide mobility agreement. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
