About the Position: This is a Natural Resources Specialist, GS-0401-11 position with the USACE Fort Worth District, Operations Division, Trinity Regional Office located in Fort Worth, TX; located in Benbrook, TX.
Duties
Work under the general supervision of the Site Manager, and in coordination with regional Business Line Managers.
Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on all matters related to natural resource management for a major water resource project.
Develop various planning documents including Master Plans and Operational Management Plans, for management of the water resource project and various planning documents.
Plan and execute conservation, preservation, restoration and use of project natural and cultural resources.
Prescribe and implement resource management actions that promote biodiversity and native species re-establishment.
Work with other fish and wildlife specialists in the district and in coordination with state and federal wildlife management agencies.
Provide project information to local, state and federal agencies and the visiting public through brochures, bulletin boards, news releases, telephone calls, and other written and oral correspondence.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a mandatory drug testing designated position. This position requires the completion of a pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one- year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- Incumbent must be able to maintain required Corps of Engineers certification for operation of the motorboat.

Basic Requirement for the Natural Resources Specialist, GS-0401-11:
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position such as Parks and Recreation Management, Physical Geography, Wildland Fire and Management, Zoology, etc.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes performing at least two of the following three duties:
1) Performing various assignments such as planning, administration, coordination and management within a natural resources, recreation and dam safety natural resources, recreation, park, or shoreline management program; OR 2) Implementing plans related to natural resources or recreation/park management; OR 3) Conducting staff training associated to environmental regulations and how to operate in compliance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
