This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Mid-Atlantic Health Care Network (VISN 6), Hampton VA Medical Center (VAMC), in Environmental Management Service (EMS). The primary purpose of the position involves transporting, setting up, preparation, and staging of furniture in locations throughout the Hampton VAMC, including the Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs).

Duties

Works closely with Interior Designer, personnel from Engineering Service, and personnel from Contract Service. Incumbent's focus involves lifting and moving very heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies to support the Interior Designer. Performs duties that continually involve extremely heavy physical effort. The incumbent routinely lifts and carry objects weighing over 50 pounds with little/no assistance, required to occasionally lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance. Use of a pallet jack, Cushman electric carts and motor vehicles on a regular basis. Operates the pallet jack to lift, load, move, transport, and stack goods and materials contained on pallets, skids, crates, or boxes. Reads, understands, and apply instructions contained in various manuals and Interior Design layouts; also adjust the layout and work site to effectively and safely use furnishings daily. Operates one or more vehicles (based on availability) including pickup trucks, panel trucks, flatbed trucks, and cab pickup trucks which will have an approximate weight up to 4,500 kilograms (10,000 pounds). Inventories the stock of furniture in the designated storage areas, identifies component shortages for replenishment orders, confirms receipt of orders, identifies discrepancies including improper items received, shortage of items delivered, wrong products, damage to shipment, etc. Work Schedule: Full-time, 7:00 am-3:30 pm, Monday-Friday Position Description Title/PD#: Materials Handler/PD028170 Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not authorized

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent exerts very heavy physical efforts in doing such tasks as routinely lift and carry objects weighing over 50 pounds with little/no assistance, required to occasionally lift and carry heavy objects weighing up to 100 pounds with assistance. The incumbent performs tasks and other strenuous laborer duties that require climbing ladders and considerable walking. works inside and outside, including areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, and/or poorly lighted. Incumbent will be regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock or mechanized work areas. The Incumbent will operate motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions on public roads and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents.
