ORGANZATIONAL LOCATION: Department of Health & Health Human Services (HHS), Indian Health Service (IHS), Southwest Region, Phoenix Area, Fort Yuma Health Center, Administrative Services- Facilities Department located in Winterhaven, CA. This position provides technical support of the Facilities Support Program and is supervised by the Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor.
Duties
MAJOR DUTIES:
GENERAL
Performs the full range of work involved in maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment including plumbing and electrical work associated with Air Handling Units (AHUs), Refrigeration Systems, Pumps, Motors, Fans, Cooling Towers (fluid coolers), Condensing Boilers, Solar Water Heaters, Heat Exchangers, Compressors, Vacuums, and Building Automation Systems. The A/C systems contain the following devices: automatic thermostatic expansion valves, low and high pressure side floats, motor controls, hermetically-sealed motors, pressure controls, thermostatic motor controls, relays and other controls required to operate, and protect the HVAC-systems.
Mechanical
Diagnose and locate malfunctions; dissembles, repairs, replace, and/or adjust thermostats, pressurestats, humidistats, relays, switches, and other automatic control devices; disassemble and repair compressors and related components, service and repair evaporators, and condensers; repack valves and bearings, replace belts and pulleys, lubricate, moving parts, replace and/or cleans filters; bleed systems and replace refrigerants test for leaks and for excessive load conditions, modify and fabricate parts. Install and relocate equipment. Operate all hand tools, test equipment and instruments, soldering equipmen, brazing equipment, welding equipment, and shop machines. Train inexperienced personnel by going on the job instructions and assistance, and observe all rules and regulations.
Electrical
Install and repair 120V and 12V-24V (nominal) voltage electric wiring systems, related switches, distribution panels and outlets boxes, as well as a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools and appliances. Following maintenance services, diagnose system or equipment malfunctions and repair as necessary. Inspect, maintain, clean, repair, test, troubleshoot and adjust electrical components including alarms, relays, motors, switches, and thermostats. Test and troubleshoot electrical components through the use of diagnostic tools such as voltmeter, ammeter, ohmmeter, hygrometer, pressure meter, and thermometer. Measure, cut, thread, bend, assemble, and install conduits, insert, splice and connect wire to fixtures, outlets, switches, receptacles, and power sources.
Plumbing
Repair and maintenance of domestic (potable) water system, and heating and cooling water systems, liquid propane piping systems, and sewer systems for the clinic. Install modifies, maintains and performs preventative maintenance on various plumbing fixtures. Repairs of PVC, copper, steel/iron plumbing systems. Including locating, measuring, cutting, threading, fitting, and assembling copper, iron or PVC pipe and associated fittings; installations of equipment and piping with proper supports, i.e. hangers and foundations, making required alignments and adjustments to meet installation specifications; testing of exiting and new/modified plumbing systems and equipment to specifications and making adjustments/repairs as required. Duties include but are not limited to cleaning stoppages and repairing/replacing pipes valves and fixtures as required to bring system back into performance parameters.
Preventative Maintenance
Performs preventative maintenance on HVAC equipment. Report the completion of maintenance tasks through the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS FOR WG-4749-10: A specific length of training and experience is not required , but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. WG-4749-10: Follow oral or written instructions and/or work orders; performing maintenance mechanic duties, including use and apply standard building techniques, practices, and codes, read and understand blueprints, sketches and schematics, read and understand work orders in order to complete assigned work, performs the full range of work involved in maintenance, and repair of HVAC equipment including plumbing and electrical work associated with Air Handling Units (AHUs), Refrigeration Systems, Pumps, Motors, Fans, Cooling Towers (fluid coolers), Condensing Boilers, Solar Water Heaters, Heat Exchangers, Compressors, Vacuums, and Building Automation Systems.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: EPA Certification
This positions requires an EPA Certification for handling of refrigerants to perform the repair, overhaul, maintenance, and servicing of freezers, water coolers, air conditioning units, ventilating systems, chillers and related equipment.
