The Division of Market Oversight supports the CFTC's mission to promote the integrity, resilience, and vibrancy of the U.S. derivatives markets through sound regulation. The Division regulates derivative trade execution exchanges and swap data repositories. The CTFC is currently operating in a remote posture. If selected for this position, you will be required to report to a CFTC location for onboarding. Per Agency's policy, you will be required to follow reporting procedures.

Duties

This position is located in the Chief Counsel Branch of the CFTC’s Division of Market Oversight (DMO).  DMO supports the oversight of the derivatives markets regulated by the CFTC, and oversees derivatives trading platforms and swap data repositories.  DMO develops and implements CFTC regulations to promote open, transparent, fair, competitive and secure derivatives markets, and sound market structure. In addition, DMO analyzes global commodity and financial market developments to identify emerging risks and trends in order to support the CFTC in developing sound policy.

Qualifications

You must have the following to qualify: CT-14: Applicants must have a J.D. or LLM Degree, bar membership and four years of relevant of legal practice experience, acquired after being admitted to the bar, commensurate with the duties and responsibilities of a legal position. Relevant experience is defined as an attorney, law clerk, or other legal experience which was obtained subsequent to graduation from law school. Demonstrated skill in research and analysis of sophisticated legal issues, as well as excellent written and oral communication skills. Knowledge of commodities or related law and regulations, financial markets, corporate law, and general administrative law. Experience in developing or interpreting regulations, no-action letters, and policy statements related to the Commodity Exchange Act. Knowledge of derivatives markets, including futures, options, and swap markets.

Education

Education: Successful completion of a full course of study (JD) or LLM in a school of law accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA).

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education in order for it to be credited towards qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
