Requirements

  • This is a Drug Testing Designated Position (TDP). A pre-employment drug test is required, and the position is subject to random drug testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

QUALIFYING ITEMS: Evaluates and implements hardware/software capabilities to satisfy emerging IT requirements and trends such as network management, cyber security, cloud computing, virtualization, IT infrastructure, and project management. Investigates and analyzes emerging information technologies and off-the-shelf hardware/software products to identify and recommend those appearing to have good potential for successful application to current and projected operational requirements. Can employ advanced analytical, troubleshooting and design skills to implement new systems, correct software/hardware issues in existing systems, and improve performance through systems, software, and hardware upgrades/changes. This position is within the Work Category PROFESSIONAL at Work Level FULL PERFORMANCE, GG-2210-11. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. *MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Enterprise Server and Services System Administration 50% Manages the day-to-day operations of the Enterprise servers and all related computer systems and hardware. Performs routine and recurring work involved in the set up and maintenance of IT system components. Provides full SA of applications running on servers and related computer systems. Installs, configures, maintains, operates, monitors performance, and secures Enterprise servers, installed services, and applications; Performs Active Directory Forest/Domain, SharePoint and Exchange Administration. Performs SA functions on Microsoft Operating Systems (OS), enterprise application, Unix OS, and Linux OS. Oversees Enterprise staging, configuration, testing and deployment. Configures and manages application, print, file, and database servers. Monitors Enterprise server logs and server availability. Oversees and performs installation, configuration, administration and operation on government furnished mobile devices. Controls service accounts for the Enterprise. Perform system administration of a virtualization architecture, systems, and applications. Operates, manages, monitors, Enterprise Backup and failover systems and applications. Monitors the automated systems to include troubleshooting, fault isolation, problem solving, upgrading of hardware and software, debugging, and assessing program effectiveness. Conducts system testing and preventative maintenance. Prepares supporting documentation and complies with Standard Operating Procedures. Advises and works with other technical specialists and SAs on development, testing, installation, and maintenance of automation networks and the wide variety of associated support systems and software. Diagnoses system failures to isolate source of problems between equipment, networks, systems software, and applications systems and tracks system failures and corrective actions. Corrects system problems and initiates, or implements, necessary hardware, software, or configuration changes, as required. Ensures scheduled maintenance and upgrades for all software are accomplished. Track, coordinate, and manage the cryptographic requirements for the enterprise architecture to include the management and maintenance of encryption devices. Performs Storage Area Network (SAN), Backup/Disaster Recovery, and Database Administration. Advises Branch Lead on capabilities and utilization of the computer system and network configurations, to include requests for unique project system software and hardware, compilers, debugging aids, and utility routines. Works with Information Assurance (IA) technicians to mitigate vulnerabilities, report Information Assurance Vulnerability Alert (IAVA) status, and develop Plan of Action & Milestone (POA&M) for enterprise systems. Planning and Systems Configuration 25% Interprets new or revised command policies and objectives to determine their impact on current systems and future plans. Participates in the development, implementation, and further refinement of the automation support program and follows approved USMC and MARFORCYBER guidance. Performs routine and recurring tasks in providing technical support. Analyzes and defines automation needs and assists in identifying information and communication needs of supported customers. Identifies or develops associated requirements, to include assisting network managers with hardware configurations, types and extent of data access, systems and data security and protection, and interface and-interoperability with other networks and system architectures. Ensures customers' system configurations and automation plans are fully compatible with overall communications and networking initiatives within the Enterprise. Discusses pertinent issues with functional and technical specialists, provides authoritative advice and guidance, and initiates necessary changes in accordance with policies. Evaluates new or changed software to determine how it would support current and planned systems and projects, considering problems of compatibility, processing ease and speed, known technological trends and developments. Direction of System Administration Activities 25% Performs routine network configuration management functions. Directs and monitors the installation, configuration, and consolidation of servers and services. Monitors hardware performance and disk storage levels. Manages and coordinates system administration actions required. Directs installation and configuration of non- Enterprise servers and monitors their performance. Performs software upgrades for all applications. Directs and assists other SAs in troubleshooting and resolving system problems and hardware failures. Conducts technical assistance visits, as required. Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

In lieu of the qualifying experience listed in the Qualifications section, applicants may qualify based on education, as follows:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

OR

3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree

Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions

Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
