This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Duties

The Senior Social Worker providers overall clinical support for the NF/SGHVHS Caregiver Support Program and works as part of a large team consisting of licensed clinical social workers and registered nurses. Work will be performed across the multiple needs of the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers. Work will include providing wellness visits and ongoing case management for Veterans and their family caregivers enrolled in the program, supporting the needs of the application process, providing specialized clinical programming for Veterans and their family caregivers, and supporting special projects as required. General work includes assessment, patient/caregiver centered goal development, treatment planning, execution of treatment plans; individual, family and group therapy appropriate to level of licensure. The Senior Social Worker may be offered telework, but will come to VA facilities to carry out primary clinical responsibilities or complete administrative task as required for the position. Normal work hours will start when the Senior Social Worker is at their designated duty station of the day. The Senior Social Worker will be required to travel throughout the patient service area the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System to provide education, provide direct care to Veterans and family caregivers, and conduct outreach/educational meetings related to the program. The Senior Social Worker participates in direct caregiver and Veteran face-to-face home visit and clinic contacts, telephone contacts, Video contacts and other ways of communication to generate workload to conduct program assessment new and routine, identify and assess caregiver stress/burden, and the development and application of directed clinical treatment interventions. The overall programs clinical goals are to provide case management through supportive contacts, information/education/resources, and support to Veterans and their caregivers enrolled in the caregiver programs. The Senior Social Worker will serve as an interdisciplinary team member and must be a team player. Advises and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams throughout the medical center on caregiver issues. Creates educational tools, develops programs and implements training focused on specific caregiver needs/issues. Provides education and in-service training to VA employees, Veterans, families and caregivers, and other governmental and non-governmental community partners. Facilitates caregiver support groups (face-to-face or VANTS telephone line) and educational programs in collaboration with the Caregiver Support Program Manager and Program Coordinators. Distributes educational materials provided by VA, local, state and national caregiver organizations. The Senior Social Worker must have skill in presenting orally and in writing to a wide range of internal and external customers at all levels of organizations. Skill in Microsoft Office programs, such as Excel, PowerPoint, Teams and Outlook is essential for the position. Expertise in execution of data management/evaluation is critical to this position. The position requires frequent day travel to other sites within the NF/SGVHS. The Senior Social Worker will exercise mature professional judgment and use a wide range of clinical skills. The Senior Social Worker will attend and participate in administrative and clinical staff meetings. The Senior Social Worker will comply with all policies/regulations of the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Senior Social Worker may also participate in the student training program, new employee orientation, as well as, serve on facility, VISN, and national committees and workgroups with supervisory approval. Work hours will be set hours, Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and may include night and weekends as required for the work to be accomplished. The Senior Social Worker is required to travel on a regular basis and may be required to travel to other locations of care within the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System as required. The Senior Social Worker is required to drive and/or travel using personal vehicle or government vehicle to other sites of care within the NF/SGVHS, as well as, to community partners, as necessary to accomplish work assigned. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Be a citizen of the United States. Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. ? 7403(f). Education: Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-185 series at the VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. Once licensed or certified, social workers must maintain a full, valid, and unrestricted independent license or certification to remain qualified for employment. Loss of licensure or certification will result in removal from the GS-0185 social worker series and may result in employment termination. Grade Determinations. In addition to the basic requirements for employment, the following criteria must be met when determining the grade of candidates. Senior Social Worker GS-12 Experience and Education: The candidate must have at least two (2) years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one (1) year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. Licensure/Certification: Senior social workers must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level which included an advanced generalist or clinical examination, unless they are grandfathered by the state in which they are licensed to practice at the advanced practice level (except for licenses issued in California, which administers its own clinical examination for advanced practice) and they must be able to provide supervision for licensure. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Preferred Experience: Prefer advance practice licensed social workers with minimum 5 years experience in primary care, home care and/or mental health settings. Prefer prior experience professionally working with family caregivers. Prefer experience with clinical and administrative program development and performance metrics. Prefer experience with lean system thinking and system redesign. Prefer minimum of White Belt trained.
