The primary purpose of this position is to install, maintain, and repair a variety of domestic heating equipment and systems and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units.
Duties
Installs, repairs, and maintains a variety of uncomplicated beating equipment and systems that do not have complex maintenance requirements.
Assists boiler plant mechanics in installing, modifying, testing, repairing, and maintaining equipment, such as boilers and associated auxiliary and pollution control equipment.
Repairs and maintains a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units andsystems used to condition areas and to cool equipment.
Performs routine preventive maintenance on heating systems and refrigeration and air conditioning units.
Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.
Uses and maintains tools and equipment.

- Shift work and emergency overtime may be required
- Position requires CFC/NCFC Certification (universal) as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F., EPA

- The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position.
- The work requires frequent standing, bending, crouching, kneeling, climbing, and occasional stooping and stretching.
- Occasionally works from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and may perform strenuous work while standing, sitting, or lying.
- The work is usually performed indoors on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to dirt, chemicals, heat, steam, noise, and unpleasant odors.
- This position may require travel.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 - Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
