The primary purpose of this position is to assist Fitness Center Director/Operations Manager in the planning, managing, and administering of a comprehensive year-round Wing fitness program. Air Combat Command, 70th Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing, 707th Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance Group, 707 Force Support Squadron, Sustainment Services Flight, Ft George G. Meade, Md.

Duties

Plans, organizes, and assists in diverse and comprehensive physical fitness programs which include group exercise classes and self-directed fitness programs, including personal fitness training, incentive programs, special events, and instructional programs. Implements, monitors, and is responsible for the administration of the personal training exercise program. Assists Fitness Director by providing projected resources needed to execute Commander's Cup program, exercise classes, and other fitness program objectives for inclusion in the annual appropriated fund (ADF) budget. Develops and prepares publicity announcements and promotes activities and responsible for the organization of the Commander's Cup.

  • Incumbent must be able to do moderate lifting and carrying (up to 50 lbs.) for short distances, and reach above the shoulders.

  • Must have an Air Force approved primary fitness certification (American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association, National Academy of Sports Medicine, National Exercise Trainers Association or similar recommended).
  • A college degree in physical education, exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, health education, or a related field is highly desirable.

Qualifications

This is a GG-07 position in the Defense Civilian Intelligence Personnel System (DCIPS). The GG-07 duties for the "Technician/Administrative" work category are at the "Full Performance" work level and are equivalent to those at the GG-07 level. The selectee's salary will be set within the grade equivalent to a GS/GG grade based on the selectee's qualifications in relation to the job. In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. or Specialized Experience: Experience that demonstrated the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation. Examples of qualifying specialized experience include: Planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs. Planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels. Instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management. Serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Your resume must reflect the quality level of experience which demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for successful job performance required for this position. Examples of creditable experience include: knowledge (acquired through a pertinent baccalaureate educational program or equivalent in training or experience) of basic principles, concepts, and techniques of physical fitness and exercise programs including knowledge of exercise science, strength conditioning, nutrition, weight loss/control, cardiovascular endurance, and exercise prescription; of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology as related to exercise and physical fitness; assessment principles and procedures, and exercise testing equipment. Note: Creditable experience may include previous military experience, experience gained in the private sector, or experience gained in another government agency. OR EDUCATION: Have successfully completed one full academic year of graduate level education with a major study in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. or I am claiming Superior Academic Achievement. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Have less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement; however, I have completed some graduated-level education which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. Therefore, I have a combination of experience and education. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your transcripts. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of the principles and techniques of physical fitness programs including knowledge of exercise science, strength conditioning, nutrition, weight loss/control, cardiovascular endurance, and exercise prescription; of anatomy, physiology and kinesiology as related to exercise and physical fitness; assessment principles and procedures, and exercise testing equipment. 2. Knowledge of fitness and exercise program design to plan, implement, and conduct individual and group fitness programs that will improve the military member's fitness level, allow compliance with personal fitness standards, and encourages program participation to increases unit cohesion. 3. Knowledge of program and facilities management, safety, fire, and environmental regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to estimate and track budgetary requirements, plan along creative or original lines and work with supervisors and non-supervisory employees who have a variety of fitness backgrounds. 4. Skill and ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships; promote and report on the program; resolve problems; and answer questions relating to the program. 5. Ability to perform and conduct training on performing individual health risk appraisals, comprehensive fitness assessments, and proper exercise techniques for cardiovascular and resistance equipment. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
