The position is located at the Loma Linda Healthcare System, Architecture and Interior Design Service, Facility Improvement Team(FIT) Section. The incumbent is responsible for maintenance, repair, installation and operation of lighting and power distribution systems. The incumbent makes mechanical and electrical tests and visual inspection to determine causes of malfunctions or conditions which may cause breakdown or safety hazards.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Operation of lighting and power distribution systems, their capabilities and limitations of equipment, such as transformers, automatic transfer switches, overload protective devices, circuit breakers, ground fault detective distribution panels and associated equipment. Working knowledge of the National Electric Code and can use it correctly for such items as sizing wire, conduit, breakers, motors, switches, fuses and other devices. Broad knowledge of shop and trade practices and tools used such as hickeys EMT conduit benders, drill motors, power hacksaws, voltmeters, ohmmeters, amp probes, recorders, pliers, screwdrivers, wire cutters, etc. Performing mechanical and electrical tests and visual inspection to determine causes of malfunctions or conditions which may cause breakdown or safety hazards. Disassembling, making repairs and reassembling all trade related device and/or equipment. Conduct electrical work on buildings, electrical distribution systems, underground utilities including High Voltage and Medium Voltage systems and back up emergency generators. Performance of visual examinations, inspections, technical research, and operational test to determine the need for, and the performance of, installing, modifying, overhauling, troubleshooting etc. Perform a wide variety of assignments in connection with the maintenance of the electrical distribution system, which consists of voltages from 24 volts to 13K volts AC and the DC electrical distribution system. Physical Requirements:Work assignments require the use of light to moderate physical effort. Employees must frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally items weighing more than 40 pounds must be handled. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, or working on ladders in high places for extended periods of time is required. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside a well lighted, heated and ventilated area. Work is also conducted in highly visible crowded areas where workers and patient safety must be exercised. Employee is required to wear uniform and protective clothing when exposed to patients and areas that are contaminated or designated as clean areas. Employees are subject to injuries, such as electrical shocks, cuts, bruises, abrasions, and burns.
