This position is located at the Department of Veterans Affairs inside the Veterans Health Administration located within VA Sierra Pacific Network-VISN 21 which contains the Northern California Health Care System (VANCHCS) in the Nursing Service, physically located at the Martinez outpatient clinics. The incumbent reports directly to the Administrative Officer in the administrative team for the service.

Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Performs all aspects of timekeeping for Nursing Service. Types the work schedules from handwritten copies completed by Nurse Managers/supervisors for all units/clinics. Enters employee work tours, leave, etc. in VATAS Timekeepers Menu. Keeps track of leave time available for each employee in Nursing Service. Posts Fee-Basis employee timecards manually calculating hours worked multiplied by hourly rate. Teaches and trains employees how to use the leave menu. Assists employees in clearing exceptions. Types memos as needed for employees who need to request advance leave. Maintains weekly work schedules for all units/clinics. Performs typing work, whether from voice recordings or written material on either a manual or electric typewriter, and/or using word processing software and equipment. Performs office automation duties using such software applications as electronic mail, desktop publishing, calendar, spreadsheet, database and/or graphics. Integrates several types of software to generate specific working documents and forms such as spreadsheet, database, work processing, desktop publishing graphics and other related products. Selects appropriate system, application and format. Processes incoming and outgoing materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda and other forms of written communication. Performs the following types of duties: edits letters, composes letters and reports, reviews correspondence for accuracy and completeness, prepares public presentation outlines, and develops standard or form letters and replies to inquiries. Provides reports, reviewing outgoing correspondence for proper attachments, or consolidating/coordinating submittals of information. Performs a wide variety of administrative tasks associated with maintaining and supporting the work performed within the organization. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday. Full Time. 8:00am-4:30pm. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 08/17/2023. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Advancement to positions up to GS-5. Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-5 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest nontemporary competitive appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: GS-05: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Knowledge of varied and advanced functions of office automation software and software functions to produce a wide range of documents that require complex formats. (This experience must be well documented in your resume.) OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed 4 years above high school. (NOTE: TRANSCRIPTS MUST BE SUBMITTED WITH THE APPLICATION MATERIALS. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
