The primary purpose of this position is to keep stocks of tools and parts used by shop employees in their work and to issue items to the shop employees when they need them, keeping track of whereabouts of items and monitoring returns. Also verifies excess, short, or damaged items received in shipments. Selects locations for items based on size, shape, and nomenclature.
Duties
- Performs a broad range of standard receiving and storing of assigned stock, tools, tool kits, and/or equipment items.
- Supports Tool Crib personnel in the performance of inventories.
- Performs a broad range of issuing duties on assigned items.
- Maintains catalogs and initiates supply actions.
- Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

- This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program as a presumptive position identified by general criteria and specific occupational series/codes
- Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing. Illegal drug use by employees in testing designated positions presents a clear threat to public safety and/or the mission of the Air Force and national security
- Motor Vehicle Operators: This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use IAW AFMAN 44-198, Attachment 2, Category I, Type 2: Motor Vehicle Operators
- The work will require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license will be required for the position
- May be required to act as the primary or alternate equipment custodian
- May be required to build tool/parts kits
- The physical requirements of this position are: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions
- Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 10 pounds. May occasionally handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. May lift heavier items with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-6900 - Warehousing And Stock Handling Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.
The screen out element for this position is the Ability To Do the Work of a Tools And Parts Attendant without More than Normal Supervision
JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
Knowledge of a variety of tools and parts.
Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures.
Ability to use tools/equipment; store various items; maintain a neat, well-organized, and secure storage area; receive, store, issue, and inventory parts, tools, and/or equipment; and maintain records using automated and/or mechanized systems without more than normal supervision.
Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc., from shop personnel and tools and parts catalogs.
Ability to inspect tools, parts, and equipment for visible damage.
Ability to provide customer and production support services.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries weights up to 10 pounds. May occasionally handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. May lift heavier items with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is generally done in areas that are well lighted, heated, and ventilated. The attendant may occasionally work in areas that are drafty. The work is sometimes dirty, dusty, and greasy. The attendant is frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, and bruises.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
