The primary purpose of this position is to perform the duties of a Utility Systems Repairer Operator at the intermediate grade level and assist higher level journey worker mechanics inspecting, repairing, operating, servicing, troubleshooting and maintaining building mechanical equipment and air conditioning systems, and necessary actions to restore any electrical, plumbing or Building Automation System (BAS) systems when an emergency breakdown occurs.

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the WG-4742-8. The following elements as defined in Civil Service Handbook X-118C are used: Element 1        Ability to Perform the Duties of the Position Without More than Normal Supervision (Screen –out Element) Element 2-E    Knowledge of HVAC/Mechanical Equipment Assembly, Installation and Repair Element 60      Use of Measuring Instruments Element 75-A  Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc., (includes Blueprint Reading) Element 81      Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Element 82-A  Knowledge of Materials Element 96      Ability to Troubleshoot Mechanical/HVAC Systems Problems  "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-in-Grade: Current Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement to receive consideration under merit promotion procedures. CTAP/ICTAP candidates: To be considered "well qualified" you must meet all of the requirements as described in this section. You must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
