Duties

If selected, you will serve as a Health Care Fraud Investigator in the Criminal Division of the United States Attorney's Office (USAO), Western District of Michigan. The Incumbent will work with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) and other Federal, State, and local agencies on Health Care Fraud (HCF) and Affirmative Civil Enforcement (ACE) investigations. Typical work assignments will include: Planning and managing large-scale investigative analysis of significant HCF and ACE cases. Analyzing evidentiary information or voluminous data to assess facts related to assigned cases. Preparing valid samples of claims and examining claims or other relevant data, books, ledgers, payroll, cost reports, billing statements, invoices, correspondence, computer data, and other records pertaining to the claims, transactions, events, or allegations under investigation. Consolidating and synthesizing data relevant to investigations collected from multiple sources. Assisting with the calculation of fraud loss and/or damages, including but not limited to providing statistical analyses of claims data and victim restitution calculations. Identifying and coordinating reviews of evidence with retained litigation consultants and expert witnesses. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. Notes: Although this position can support both Criminal and Civil HCF and ACE investigations, the incumbent will not perform any Criminal Investigator (GS-1811) duties (i.e., serving warrants or subpoenas, transporting suspects/defendants, carrying a firearm, conducting surveillance activities, operating undercover, etc.). Location for this position is open to Grand Rapids or Lansing with expected travel to Grand Rapids often.

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation

Qualifications

GS-13: In order to qualify for the GS-13 level, you must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in Federal Service. Specialized Experience is defined as experience conducting complex health care fraud investigations and financial examinations; analyzing evidentiary information to assess facts; assessing information to prepare analytical products; preparing samples of claims and examining claims or other relevant data or allegations under investigation; assisting in the analysis and compilation of documents and physical evidence; and knowledge of, and skill in applying, a wide range of complex inspection, investigation, enforcement, and/or compliance principles, concepts, and practices. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
