This position is located in the Veteran Transportation Service (VTS) of the VA Medical Center in Iowa City, IA.
Duties

Managing the Beneficiary Travel Program;
Arranging transportation to beneficiaries and their attendants traveling to and from VA facilities and other places for examinations, treatment, or care;
Determining eligibility for the program and processing requests;
Determining which of several fund control points to utilize, entering authorizations, maintaining manual and electronic accounting records, performing reconciliations, and adjusting account balances;
Contacting approval officials to authorize obligations and requests for additions, deductions, and/or movement of funds;
Determining method of payment for ambulance claims;
Receiving invoices for payment related to transportation, forwarding for supervisory approval and Fiscal Service for processing, and submitting related documents to appropriate control points for reference:
Investigating authorizations and orders;
Using the Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS) to review medical records;
Preparing correspondence explaining the disposition of travel claims;
Explaining regulatory guidelines to beneficiaries;
Balancing, reconciling, and adjusting invoices for payment;
Reconciling vouchers against authorizations for accuracy and preparing certifications for payment;
Responding to customer requests and seeking resolution of complaints;
Providing courteous and efficient customer service;
Performing related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS GS-05: Possess one year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position, and that is typically in or related to the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in Federal service. Examples of specialized experience include: experience working as an administrative assistant or support assistant in a clinic/office; coordinating transportation for customers/patients; collating transportation requests; collecting payments for transportation; reading maps and calculating mileage; researching various types of transportation options and routes available to customers; providing professional customer service to customers. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit.

EDUCATION: Possess a bachelor's degree or four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. (TRANSCRIPTS ARE REQUIRED)

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Possess an equivalent combination of specialized experience and post-high school education as described that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. For the GS-05, only education beyond the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the requirement. Your experience must be detailed in your resume. Physical Requirements: he duties of this position require some mobility between various clinic areas in separate building location sites, but generally the job is sedentary with some standing, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. The employee is required to work with computer equipment at least 75% of the time which impacts hand and wrist motions. The work is performed in a business office and an outpatient treatment setting. The environment involves those everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. The employee works in a health care facility where exposure to contagious diseases exist, but the duties of this position do not put the employee at a serious risk for this exposure. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The employee must always remain composed in trying to assist Veterans and their families who may be upset, in distress, or hostile.
