This position is located on Forest Service Boxelder Job Corps Civilian Conservation Center in Nemo, SD The incumbent is responsible for performing duties as a substitute Training Instructor for the Facilities Maintenance vocation skills training program, as well as performing a variety of routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance duties for the Center. Duties

Lead 3 or more advanced Maintenance Students performing maintenance related duties. Perform building maintenance repairs (e.g., electrical, plumbing, carpentry, heating and cooling, painting, etc.), identify and perform routine, preventative, and emergency maintenance. Use power tools, mowers, weed eaters, automatic sprinkling systems, backhoe, loader, tractors, etc. to perform grounds maintenance and minor construction activities. Apply fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides. Organize and conduct safety meetings and providing basic safety training. Adapt materials to the students? needs and idiosyncrasies, resulting in maximum benefits for them. Provide guidance and counseling regarding educational, vocational and personal goals and personal-social problems.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service or exempt.
  • Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
  • Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver?s license.
  • This is a Test Designated Position. You will be tested for illegal drugs prior to appointment. Appointment and continued employment is conditional on negative results.
  • Obtain certification for pesticide/herbicide applications (within six months of appointment for recruitment purposes) depending upon State regulations.
