You will serve as a Machinist in the Voyage Repair Team (VRT) of FLTREADCEN DET MID ATLANTIC PAX RIVER.
Duties
You will set up and operate auxiliary machine tool attachments (e.g., dividing heads, taper attachments, jigs, fixtures, boring heads, rotary tables) to accomplish machining tasks.
You will recommend changes to computerized numerical control (CNC) machine tool programs to correct noted deficiencies.
You will manufacture, repair, and rebuild parts and items of equipment from raw stock of different metals and metal alloys.
You will determine from instructions, specifications, or drawing what speeds, feeds, coolants, lubricants or abrasives need to be used to cut, drill, mill, shape, or finish an item.
You will maintain specified dimensional accuracy and tolerances while working on machining tasks.

- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision such as: 1) Planning the work and manufacturing parts and items of equipment from raw stock of various metals, metal alloys, and other materials using specialized and nonstandard machine tools and multi axis numerically controlled machines; 2) Using conventional machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, drills, and auxiliary machine tool attachments; 3) Performing complex set-ups, layouts, gauging, precise alignments and measurements of work pieces on machines and layout tables using layout and precision measurement tools; 4) Coordinating related work processes utilizing knowledge of heat treating/annealing/welding/plating uses knowledge of arithmetic ,geometric and trigonometric formulas to compute compound angels, angular indexing etc.; and 5) Interpreting work orders and drawings to complete assigned tasks.
