We are looking for a Nurse (Research Specialist) whom will have responsibility for exercising the full domain of practice for the specialty of clinical research nursing including care provided to research participants, as well as activities to support study implementation, data collection and human subject protection. Duties
Utilize advanced critical thinking and nursing skills in coordinating care for individuals who are participants in the biomedical research studies, their families, and significant others. Care requirements are determined by the scope of study participation, the clinical condition of the patient and the requirements and clinical effects of research procedures.
Provide expert consultation in matters related to the research process and specific, complex patient populations. Serves as an authority for a specified patient population, independently assessing acute and non-acute clinical problems and toxicities, and appropriately consulting and collaborating with medical and interdisciplinary staff colleagues from the specific institute, department, or program.
Asses complex and sensitive health education needs in individual research participant populations with like conditions, studies, or other characteristics. Develops plans to address comprehensive research participant needs including education, safety, and comfort. Provides education to research participants/significant others regarding study participation, participant's current clinical condition, using available resources and modifying teaching methods to achieve the highest level of learning.
Provide advanced nursing expertise and support in clinical trial coordination and implementation, data, and study management. Oversees the implementation, tracking, data abstraction and collection, and coordination of data reporting for a variety of clinical research studies within the NIA Clinical Unit.
Independently and effectively sets priorities and organizes complex assignments. Develops and provides leadership, facilitation, and group management skills to team and identifies opportunities for collaborative projects and practice.

Education Requirement:In order to meet the Basic Qualification Requirements for a Nurse (Research Specialist), GS-0610, you must: Have a graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. NOTE: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools; AND
License: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition. they must possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; AND
You must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the basic education and licensure requirements, in order to qualify for the Nurse (Research Specialist) position below, you must have at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal government obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: collecting research data, samples and managing nursing aspects of clinical protocols; coordinating research and clinical activities to meet research needs, study requirements; assessing participant responses to study and clinical treatment reporting potential adverse events to research team; developing and providing patient and family counseling, health education, and serving as a patient advocate along with other health care professionals; and directing and performing quality assurance and quality control activities as they relate to study adherence, monitoring and data collection.
