This position is located in the Nursing Services Department of the Fort Thompson Health Center in Fort Thompson, South Dakota. The purpose of this position is to assist the Director of Nursing in administration and supervision of nursing services. This position is considered a "working supervisor".

Duties

Attends daily huddle which includes staff from Nursing and other departments, when necessary. Reviews daily nursing schedule and assigns nurses to providers. Assigns daily quality control and code teams. Prepares nurses' work schedules and revises schedules as necessary for sick leave and emergency leave. Approves annual leave, overtime, and compensatory time and makes decisions or solves problems as needs arise. Provides individual nursing evaluations and assists with personnel policies. Assesses the delivery of nursing care in the Ambulatory Department and identifies problems, opportunities and solutions for improvement.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- Education: In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the Basic Requirements for a nurse position. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure In order to qualify for this position, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Requirements for the GS-0610-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Examples Include: Knowledge of nursing concepts, skills and principles necessary to provide professional services including; Assessment and therapeutic skills; teaching principles, pharmaceuticals including their desired effects and complications; medical equipment and skills necessary to use them; diagnostic procedures and tests including their interpretation and performance and counseling skills. Demonstrated management, administrative and supervisory skills necessary to effectively manage nursing services in the medical clinic and to prioritize these services according to patient needs and outcomes. Ability to communicate verbally with individuals and groups from various educational economic, and cultural backgrounds. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
