About the Position: This position serves as the Depot Armorer under the supervision of the Supply and Serves Branch Chief with responsibility to maintain the Depot's arms room. Incumbent will perform field/sustainment level maintenance and repair of small arms and make diagnosis to locate mechanical deficiencies and malfunctions.

Duties

Inspect small arms to identify defects and required repairs. Use hand and machine tools to modify small weapons by replacing obsolete parts and/or assemblies. Use technical manuals, specification sheets, and drawings to determine, operation, assembly, and tolerances of a variety of small arms. Use precision gauges and measuring instruments such as micrometers, optical comparators, ultrasonic checkers, magnafluxing machines, or borescopes to determine when parts are worn or damaged past acceptable specifications. Perform final tests and adjustments to assure that equipment is operating within prescribed limits and tolerances. Reassemble and install sub-assemblies on weapons and turret mechanisms to restore proper operation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Incumbent must pass pre-employment medical examination.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a state/government vehicle operator's license.
  • This is an Inclement Weather Essential position, you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • This position requires lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Position comes within the Chemical Personnel Suitability and Reliability Program and as such, has been designated by the department of Army as critical to the National or Internal security.

Inspecting parts to check for obvious wear and defects and make repairs according to manufacturer specifications, and performing operational checks to verify correct reassembly of weapons. Exposed to grease, oil and solvents when cleaning and lubricating weapons. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts and bruises from tools or sharp edges of metal. WORKING CONDITIONS Work is performed primarily inside. Incumbent is frequently exposed to drafts, changing temperatures, and noise. Both inside and outside, the incumbent is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors or ground. Typically works on parts and systems which are dirty, oily, or greasy. Is frequently exposed to the possibility of receiving cuts, burns, bruises, and sprains while repairing, positioning, and moving equipment. Is often exposed to the possibility of receiving burns and skin irritations from acids, fluids, and lubricants. Is exposed to loud noises and muzzle blasts when observing or participating in test firing of weapons. Uses safety equipment such as protective ear devices, hard hats, and hard toe shoes.
