The Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center is seeking a highly qualified candidate for a Transportation Assistant position in Wichita Kansas.
Wage: VC 4: $18.41 - $21.47 / hr
Work Schedule: Mon-Fri 7:30 a.m-3:30 p.m

Duties
The incumbent for this position works under the general supervision of the Chief or designated official. Primary duties involve inventory management, stockroom operations, cash handling, accountability, and the upkeep and maintenance of assigned vending machines. The incumbent complies with all vending provisions outlined in the Resources and Support COPP: Section 2 Internal Security and Controls. Specific duties include:
Vending Machines:
Conducts daily inspections of assigned machines to ensure that machines are operable, adequately stocked, and clean.
Restocks all machines as required. Inserts fresh quality products and removes products as required to avoid out-of-code violations. Ensures product prices are appropriately displayed and are in accordance with established pricing policies.
Ensures that machines are functioning properly after each restocking. Ensures that machines are maintained/cleaned in accordance with manufacturer's instructions or VCS policies. Performs minor maintenance as required.
As instructed, records meter readings from each machine using Vendmax procedures and hand held. Ensures that bill and/or coin changers contain ample change to meet the daily requirements and that proper security measures are in place to prevent theft and/or losses.
Contacts vendors for necessary repairs.
Regularly monitors the temperature of refrigerated machines. Effects necessary actions to prevent waste and/or contamination losses resulting from machine breakdowns.
Replenishes supply items (condiments, utensils, napkins, etc.) as required.
Stock Controls:
Maintains an ample supply of "on-hand" vending products at all times. Timely and routinely submits purchase orders to replenish vending products. Avoids excessive ordering and/or initiates clearing actions to eliminate overstocking conditions.
Prepares merchandise transfer forms for transfer of merchandise to other departments/stores.
Manages a clean and efficient stockroom. Ensures that all stock is property dated, marked, rotated, and stored in a neat and orderly manner.
Reviews all invoices to assure that the quantity/quality of merchandise received is correct. Inspects merchandise for damage and records findings on delivery invoices. Enters invoices into Vendmax/Oracle as directed.
Conducts monthly stock inventories and submits findings. Clarifies discrepancies
explaining inventory shortages/losses.
Cash Controls:
NOTE: All cash handling and controls will be conducted and verified (on-site) with a management of designated official.
Verifies withdrawals of all cash from each vending machine. Replenishes coins in the bill changer from assigned change fund and maintains an adequate coin level for each machine. Strictly complies with the COPP, which governs cash handling, accountability, and controls.
With a management or designated official, verifies meter readings for each machine, and conducts required reconciliations. Ensures that all monies are properly accounted and sales journals balance.
Prepares/submits all reports/documents associated with cash handling and accountability of the assigned vending machines. Responsible to ensure that all vending reports are accurately and timely completed and submitted to the Chief and/or VCS Finance.
Physical Demands
The incumbent will be required to lift boxes which can weigh up to forty (40) pounds and/or push very heavy carts. Therefore, heavy lifting/pushing is required. The incumbent may also be required to load/unload vans; drive a vehicle; and be exposed to all types of weather conditions.
Qualifications
Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in daily interactions with customers, i.e., communication, listening, empathy, conflict resolution, and maintaining a positive attitude.
Knowledge of stock control/warehousing procedures.
Ability to merchandise.
Basic replenishment, receiving, and computer skills.
Knowledge of sanitation and safety procedures.
Basic knowledge of machine maintenance.
Knowledgeable about internal security controls.
Ability to read, interpret and follow instructions.
Ability to safely lift and transport up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance.
Will be subjected to hot and cold temperatures.
