About the Position: The Anniston Army Depot is located in Anniston, Alabama in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountain chain halfway between Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL just off Interstate 20. The Depot is the largest employer in Calhoun County with approximately 4000 employees.

Duties

Set up and operate special and precision machines and all common machine shop tools and equipment. Use precision measuring instruments to check and inspect work. Identify grade of material that parts are to be fabricated from and substitute optional material. Develop and prepare sketches either from oral or written instructions. Select standard tools, jigs, fixtures and modify them as necessary to achieve dimensions.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment physical Examination and an annual examination.
  • he duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state Driver's License to operate vehicles.

Frequently handles items weighing 15-25 pounds and occasionally is required to lift items in excess of 45 pounds; however, hoists, lifts and other workers are available to assist with heavier items. Work is performed in shop that is moderately lighted, heated and ventilated. Incumbent is exposed to disagreeable odors, smoke and fumes and also there is danger to skin and eyes from flying metal chips, abrasive particles and hot metal; skin irritation from contact from coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds; and danger to the fingers, hands and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating work pieces and moving parts of machines.
