This position is located in the Environmental Management Service of the VA Medical Center in Leavenworth, KS.
Duties
Rotating through a variety of work sites in the textile care processing facility;
Unloading soiled linen bags from the truck and dumping them onto the conveyer system;
Sorting soiled linen items according to classification procedures;
Operating small piece folders and flatwork ironer;
Shaking out articles of wet linen and checking for knots, damage, and stained items;
Feeding damp pieces of linen into flatwork ironer using a spreading-feeding device, or by hand-feeding directly into the ironer;
Notifying the recipient of soiled or damaged pieces;
Receiving items at the receiving end of the ironer;
Cleaning and waxing the flatwork ironer and replacing ribbons;
Folding rough dry items by hand;
Maintaining a clean and safe work environment;
Performing related duties as required.
Work Schedule: Rotating schedule to be discussed during interview.

Qualifications
PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Standing or walking on hard surface floors. Handling linen items weighing up to 20 pounds. Lifting bulk or soiled linen weighing over 30 pounds in the receiving and shipping area. There is exposure to disagreeable odors and possibly infectious organisms from soiled linens, patient clothing, and employee uniforms. There is exposure to noise and hot and humid conditions, as well as to bruises from carts and machinery.
