The primary purpose of this position is to receive theoretical and practical instruction to perform various tasks necessary to inspect, test, manufacture, repair and modify various types of special equipment, textile/leather items for both Aircraft and Ground Equipment.

Duties

Make, modify, repair, and manufacture replacement parts for standard-type articles such as parachutes, truck tarpaulins, machinery and equipment covers, awnings, aircraft safety belts, lifting devices, harness assemblies, tents, flight clothing, aircraft soundproofing, seat covers, and other items of moderate to difficult complexity. Lay out patterns with a number of pieces that must be matched; cut out parts from single or multiple layers of material; and make adjustments to assembled articles to assure desired fit. Receive, unpack, repair, modify, test and repack survival equipment such as life preservers, life rafts, anti-exposure suits, oxygen connectors (CRU 60, 94, 120), F-4, F-16, and A-10 survival kits, AN CSU 13B/P Anti-gravity garment, and other similar equipment. Receive, unpack, repair, modify, test and repack survival equipment such ACES II Personnel Parachute (F-16 and A-10 aircraft), ACES II Drogue Parachute (F-16 and A-10 aircraft), Martin Baker Personnel and Drogue Parachutes (F-4 aircraft), MB-6 Deceleration Parachute (F-4 aircraft), BA-22 Automatic Back-Style Parachute, and the Drogue Parachute for the F-16 and A-10 aircraft. Receive, inspect, repair, test, install, and turn-in to supply numerous types of survival item.

• Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, to include evenings, weekends and/or holidays

• May be required to travel in commercial or military aircraft in the performance of temporary duty assignments.
• The work may require the employee to operate a motor vehicle on or off base, on or off the flight line area. Appropriate and valid driver's license may be required for this position.
• May be required to complete the following courses: J3ABR2A734-048A Survival Equipment, J3ABRlTl3 I-003 Life Support or J3ABR lTl3 l-002 Aircrew Life Support (short course).
• May be required to complete a one-year probation or trial period.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C. QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-4800 General Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. 2. Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) 3. Use of Measuring Instruments 4. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading) 5. Ability to Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment 6. Trouble shooting WORKING CONDITIONS: Will be required to work with pyrotechnics and 1.3/1.4 class/division explosives. Required to work with high pressure CO2 bottles. Exposed to cleaning solvents and adhesives. Exposures to dust, fumes, chemicals, chemicals irritation, noise, inclement weather (hot or cold), cuts, bruise, stains, sharp objects, or minor injuries while performing duties. May be required to work in elevated positions on ladders or lift stands while hanging of installing completed items. May be required to wear protective devices such as safety glasses, safety shoes, or utilize ventilation systems. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
