This position is located on Southwestern Region, R3, Coronado National Forest, Safford Ranger District. This position is an Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor, serving as construction and maintenance crew supervisor responsible for construction, maintenance, supervision and management of assigned fleet on a National Forest. Duties

Operate various types of heavy equipment to perform construction and road maintenance work. Steer and operate using cluthches, levers, brakes, and valves according to slope or tilt. Adjust equipment attachments for proper positioning and working order, making adjustments without stopping the power unit or the equipment. Follow oral instructions or written work orders concerning the location of the job and the work to be accomplished. Operate heavy equipment to move earth on mountains and steep slopes to grade the earth to the general contour desired on trails, roads, canals, tunnels, or construction sites. Operate dump truck and semi-truck with trailer maximum gross vehicle weight of 80,000 to 120,000 lbs. to haul specialized heavy equipment. Operate tractor/trailer combination heavy trucks exceeding 50,000 lbs. on winding roads and steep grades. Operate heavy equipment to complete excavation, backfilling, and grading of construction materials to specifications as required on such projects as roads, ditches, campgrounds, minor and major culverts and other construction projects. Perform and document comprehensive pre-start inspections on heavy equipment, heavy trucks and tractors/trailers including buy not limited to structural components, operating systems and multiple methods of airbrake checks. Perform routine maintenance on heavy equipment, heavy trucks, and tractors/trailers including buy not limited to greasing, adding fluids and changing cutting edges/wear surfaces.

  • You must be a US Citizen or US National.
  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

  • Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Drug Testing - This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Department of Transportation (DOT)/Forest Service Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
